I just had to show you Split Rock Lighthouse, after saying it was the most beautiful lighthouse I'd ever seen. I know there are lighthouse lovers among you, just like Dick and I are, plus my daughters who live so close to the beautiful lighthouses on the Outerbanks of NC. But now maybe you can understand my statement. The first 2 pics I must admit I 'stole' from the Internet. The other 4 I took myself. The man in the uniform was part of the whole wonderful tour which the magnificent (and well endowed) MN Historical Society provided at no charge at the lighthouse. He was trained and dressed as the first lighthouse keeper, and told us about his duties, his life, and his family, who lived in the extra nice and roomy 2 story house provided for the keeper, and asst keeper, and asst asst. keeper. About 2000 sq. feet. We toured one house, and it was lovely, and very modern, for its time. I believe you can see the houses in a couple of the pictures. This lighthouse was built after the terrible storm of Nov., 1905, when so many ships wrecked on Lake Superior, and especially on this very dangerous, and unpredictable, rocky western shore.
