Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario

Scenes of the locks on the USA side of the international bridge between the 2 Sault Ste. Maries. Sault means rapids, and the short river actually flows between Lake Superior and Lake Huron. There is a HUGE difference in the elevation of the 2 lakes, and this short 'river' flows at a scary speed. Lake Superior is 601' above sea level, and Lake Huron is 579' above sea level. The lock on the Ontario side, which we self toured, and was very interesting, and ahead of its time when it was built, was closed for repairs this year.

This beautiful sailing yacht, docked in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, was named Alessandra. I included this shot for our granddaughter. And these are some of our new friends whom we met while having some ice, cold Canadian beer after our walk on the boardwalk. The man on the left is the head chef, and the lady next to him is the bartender, Betty (his wife), and the one Dick has his arm around (?) is 'Blondie'.

A rest stop on the boardwalk, along the St. Mary River between Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, and Sault St. Marie, MI.
